Act Specialist
Brief
Job Description: Provides support
for the execution of the Privacy Act (PA)
program. Reviews laws, rules, regulations,
directives, policies and practices concerning
privacy issues and assists with compliance.
Areas Of Responsibility: All matters pertaining
to PA and those matters involving privacy
concerns under the FOIA.
Description of Support
- Reviews agencies Privacy Act (PA) of
1974 policies, practices and System Notices,
and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)
of 1967 policies, practices, and System
Notices that involve privacy issues.
- Researches pertinent Privacy Act laws,
rules, regulations, directives, and policies.
- Communicates with various agency offices
as necessary to coordinate the updating
of current System Notices and the issuance
of new System Notices as required under
the Privacy Act of 1974:
- Makes determinations as to whether
they accurately reflect the types of
records and personal data being collected.
- Drafts amendments, alterations, and
cancellations of existing System Notices
for publication in the Federal Register.
- Creates new System Notices for new
records systems that contain Privacy
Act protected information.
- Provides liaison with agency and field
office personnel that maintain records
to ensure the System Notices accurately
reflect actual practice.
- Provide staff with administrative
advice for responding to first-party
Privacy Act requests for access or amendment.
- Updates and issues policies pertaining
to agency information systems to assure
compliance with existing Privacy Act
laws, rules, regulations, directives,
and policies.
- Assures compliance of agency Privacy
Act System Notices with current laws,
rules, regulations, directives, and
policies..
Required
Skills/Qualifications:
- Ten years or more of progressive experience
in State and or Federal Privacy Act related
work in a Privacy Act office.
- Hands on knowledge of Privacy Act and
related requirements.
- Ability to review large amounts of information
and apply interpretative rules to scale
out real issues from probable issues and
information not requiring action.
- Strong interpersonal skills, strong
written and verbal communication skills
and strong MS Office skills.
- Minimum education is a 4 year degree.
